Railway revenue earnings up
New Delhi: The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during the period from 1st to 10th September 2009 were Rs. 2160.00 crore compared to Rs. 1948.08 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 10.88 per cent.
The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs. 1354.16 crore during the period from 1st to 10th September 2008 to Rs. 1458.59 crore during 1st September – 10th September 2009, showing an increase of 7.71 per cent. The total passenger revenue earnings during the period 1st to 10th September 2009 were Rs. 625.28 crore compared to Rs. 530.68 crore during the same period last year, reflecting an increase of 17.83 per cent. The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs. 59.63 crore during this period compared to Rs. 40.63 crore during the same period last year, showing an increase of 46.76 per cent.
The total approximate number of passengers booked during the period 1st to 10th September, 2009 were 208.36 million compared to 199.81 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 4.28 per cent. In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during 1st to 10th September, 2009 were 115.05 million and 93.31 million compared to 110.94 million and 88.87 million during the same period last year, registering an increase of 3.70 per cent and 5.00 per cent respectively.
