National Productivity Awards

New Delhi: To boost the Agricultural economy of the country as well as to recognize outstanding achievements of the organizations/units of this sector, National Productivity Awards for the Agricultural Sector are being sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture and implemented by the National Productivity Council since the year 1985-86. These awards are given away every year in 14 sub sectors namely, Agricultural Extension Services, Animal Feed Processing Units, Bio-Fertilizer Producers, Command Area Development & Irrigation Projects, Dairy Development and Production in Cooperative and Public Sector, Dry Land Farming, Horticulture Development in Cooperative Sector, Inland & Marine Fish Production in Cooperative Sector, Poultry Production and Development, Seed Corporation in Public Sector, State Agro Industries Corporation, State Farm Corporation, State Marketing and Oilseed Federations in Cooperative Sector and Warehousing Sector.

The “Productivity Award” model developed by National Productivity Council incorporates measurement of growth and level components of Productivity and their Normalization. The Scheme of Productivity Awards takes into consideration both the quantitative and qualitative factors while undertaking assessment of the participants with regard to their commitment to productivity improvement on a continuous basis. The model’s simplicity and ease in operation have attracted the attention of many international professional organizations. A separate and independent Expert Committee- cum-Jury (ECJ) is constituted for each sub sector. The Committee comprises eminent persons from related Associations, Research and Professional Institutions, concerned Ministry/Departments of the Government along with the coordinators from NPC. On the basis of the data analysis presented by NPC, each ECJ decides upon the organizations eligible for the Best, Second Best Awards and also for Certificate of Merit (third position), where considered necessary.

These awards will be given on 24th September, 2009 to those organizations/units who have distinguished themselves in productivity enhancement in their respective fields. The Awards serve as a catalyst to promote the concept of productivity in India.
