3-member panel to look...

A three-member panel has been constituted to look into the failure of the Northern Grid, which led to power outages in seven states on Monday. Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said the committee will submit its report in the next 15 days. The committee includes Central Electricity Authority Chairperson A.S. Bakshi, Power Grid Corporation Chairman and Managing Director A.M. Nayak and Power System Operation Corporation Chief Executive Officer S.K. Soonee will make up the panel. Mr. Shinde said it is too early to comment on the cause of the grid collapse. Asked whether overdrawing can be a reason, he declined to comment. To meet the demand, Mr. Shinde said an additional 8,000 MW of hydro power, including from Bhutan, is being used. The northern region is getting power from the Eastern and Western grids, he added.
